Most people think that getting more visitors to their website is enough. WRONG. Not all traffic is created equal.
It all comes down to targeting – here are some factors that influence your targeting and overall quality of traffic …
Their demographic info. Depending on what you’re promoting, it usually matters what kind of person your traffic is predominately comprised of. Two very opposite examples would be single white females, in their 30’s, with income over $75,000, never married and living in California … vs. … Latino teenage boys, age 13-18, living in Florida at home with their parents. Do you see how this would affect the success and conversion of your traffic?
Their buying behavior and where they come from. Some traffic sources are abundant, and might even be targeted – yet they might not necessarily be buyers. Consider a youtube viewer as an example. When someone comes to view free videos on that site – even if they’re in the target demographic – they might not be in a state where they are ready or looking to buy something. So this factors into quality as well …
Their long-term or “lifetime” value. Here’s another thing that’s often overlooked when it comes to traffic quality. Often, marketers will just look at the conversion of the first sale (called the “front end”) and then not track what that customer does over a longer period of time. This is very short-sighted because you dangerously mistaken in your assessment of a traffic source … considering that some traffic sources may have lower conversion or higher cost upfront, but because of their long-term buying actually produce much more profit for you over time.
